Michael Collins started the business in 1970. Michael’s first deal packaged scissors and forceps into bags which he sold into pharmacies in Sydney’s CBD to test the market. The deals were received well, and he thought, “Ok, let’s give this business a go!” In the early days, Michael would sell in the morning and pack the products himself in the afternoon. The business grew from day one and became Budget Distributors in 1979. As Budget Distributors grew, Michael was joined by his wife Sylvie, and together they ran the business for 48 years. In 1992, their son Paul joined the business, becoming Sales Manager in 1996 and facilitated a move to their current site in Botany in 2000. In 2018, after 48 years, Michael retired, handing the reins to Paul. Paul has continued the family tradition, putting his heart and soul into Budget Distributors. He has been joined by his wife Nicole and their children Amy and Ryan. Paul has grown the business, developing the MendAid, BeMed, and Beauty by BeMed brands, increasing the range to over 1,200 product lines and running a team of over 25 people. At the beginning of 2025, Ryan Collins officially joined the business full-time, marking the start of the third generation in the company’s history. Today, Paul and Ryan work side by side, committed to providing customers with exceptional service, high-quality products, and competitive margins that help businesses thrive. Paul has seen the pharmaceutical wholesale industry grow and change, and together with Ryan, continues to adapt and move with it. To this day, both remain hands-on in every aspect of the business, ensuring that the personal family approach remains at the heart of everything they do.
